Our Approach

We believe architecture should emerge from its context — cultural, climatic, material, and human. Every project begins with deep listening.

Material Knowledge

We have an understanding of a wide range of building materials, and encourage our clients and collaborators to be open to better solutions, emerging (or ancient) tech, and smarter details.

Collaboration

Design/Construction is a team sport. We take pride in our consultant network, repeat clients, and relationship to the community.

Craft

Precision at every scale. From site strategy to material detail, the same intentionality drives every decision we make.

Our Values

01
Function

Making sure the building reacts to its context, the program at hand, and the vernacular systems and materials available is the first step. Architecture deals with issues of human ergonomics at every scale. Whether it's providing right- and left-handed stations for hair stylists, or understanding a unique community food distribution program, or just laying out a kitchen in a logical and reasonable way... everyday practicality is at the core of our decision making.

02
Durability

The 'devil is in the detail' has never rung truer than in building design and construction. Materials alone cannot carry a building into the future without well-resolved, climate-sensitive detailing. Looking to cultures across the world offers a profound lesson — and a reminder of how American building culture so often defaults to a cheapest-and-fastest mentality.

03
Beauty

The most beautiful objects in nature and in design are the ones that are completely shaped by their purpose. Buildings are no different, though the design factors are numerous and sometimes entirely unseen. Beauty is in honest structure and honest materials.

04
Clarity

Managing all of the possibilities, constraints, budgets, timelines...requires clear thinking and clear communication. Being able to triage the tasks and priorities of an architectural endeavor is crucial to getting to the finish line.

Tools of the Trade

Technology is woven into the fabric of how we design — from first sketch to fabrication.

Site Analysis
01
Site Analysis
01
Site Analysis
We map solar exposure, shadow patterns, view corridors, and site context digitally before a single line is drawn — so every design decision is grounded in the reality of the site.
BIM model
02
BIM
02
BIM
We model every project in full 3D from day one. Drawings, schedules, and coordination models all come from a single living source of truth — never a disconnected set of flat files.
Rhino Parametrics

Rhino & Parametrics

Rhino & Parametrics
Complex geometries, site analysis, and form exploration all happen in Rhino. We use Grasshopper to build parametric systems that let us test dozens of design variations quickly.
Digital Fabrication

Ceramic Printing
04
Ceramic Printing
Design does not stop at the drawing. We work directly with fabricators and use digital tools to bridge the gap between model and material — from laser cutting and CNC milling to 3D-printed assemblies and custom metal details.
Photogrammetry
05
Photogrammetry
05
Photogrammetry
We scan existing conditions with photogrammetry to produce accurate as-built geometry in hours rather than days — then design directly on top of the real site.
CNC
06
CNC
06
CNC
CNC machining lets us go from digital model to physical component with precision. We spec and detail CNC-fabricated elements directly in our workflow — millwork, panels, formwork.
Sketching

Sketching

Sketching
Every tool we use starts with a hand sketch. Drawing by hand is not nostalgic — it is the fastest way to externalize an idea and test it against intuition before committing anything to a model.
Custom Software

Custom Software

Custom Software
Off-the-shelf software is designed for the average practice. We build our own scripts, plugins, and lightweight applications tailored to how we actually work — automating tedious tasks and enabling workflows that do not exist anywhere else.
